OYA bookstore is an online bookstore specialising in various Asian language books such as Japanese language, Chinese language and Korean language. Our mission is to offer the best language books and a wide range of the highest quality to anyone interested in Asian within all of Europe. We have a very wide range of carefully selected resources. We focus on a complete range of Asian languages. We actively listen, watch and ask both our suppliers and our private and business customers. Our years of experience have given us insight into what is available at the highest quality and best possible prices and conditions.
Our story
OYA Bookstore has its roots in the richness of Chinese culture and philosophy, a background that underpins the unique vision of the bookstore. The name ‘OYA’ was not chosen at random, but has deep meaning. The three letters of ‘OYA’ stand for:
O : the first letter of ‘Europe: 欧洲(ōu zhōu)’ in Hanyu Pinyin.
Y: symbolises a bridge between two continents.
A: the initial letter of Asia in Western languages
The name is a powerful metaphor for the bookstore's mission: to promote the exchange of culture and knowledge between East and West.
The original aim of OYA Bookstore was to provide an ‘ocean of knowledge’ for anyone interested in languages and cultures, with a special focus on Chinese, Asian literature and languages. The bookstore sees itself as a flat boat in this ocean, a sailing ship guiding travellers through endless streams of knowledge.
The past
OYA began as a small business with a vision to make Asian books available to a wide audience. Initially, the bookshop focused on Chinese culture and literature, but soon added other Asian regions and languages, such as Japanese, Korean and Indian literature. The bookstore's focus has always been on language education and offering books that bridge cultures on different continents.
Today
OYA Bookstore remains true to its original mission: to build bridges between East and West through books. We invite everyone who loves Asian culture to: Speak Asia, start with OYA!
